For many senior Australians, maintaining independence isn’t just about having help available in an emergency; it can also be about continuing to enjoy everyday things like heading out for a walk, visiting friends or moving around the home. A personal alarm watch for seniors can provide reassurance while allowing seniors to stay active, connected and independent.

For 80-year-old Averil from Victoria, the mCareWatch 241SE has become much more than an emergency device. It’s a trusted companion that helps her feel safe, motivates her to keep moving and achieving 3,000 – 4,000 steps per day!

A Personal Alarm Watch Averil Can Wear Daily

After becoming an mCare Digital customer in May 2025, Averil quickly made the mCareWatch part of her everyday routine.

Living with mobility challenges while waiting for surgery on her leg, she wanted a personal safety device that was practical but also something she actually wanted to wear.

“The mCareWatch is the first thing I put on every morning and the last thing I take off.”

Unlike many traditional medical alert devices, the mCare personal alarm watch didn’t look clinical.

“Most providers have black devices or they are quite large. I loved that I could have the white watch with the rose gold. It looks much more fashionable. I’ve never owned a watch this stylish and I love wearing it.”

Because she enjoys wearing it every day, Averil knows her emergency support is always within reach.

Staying Motivated to Keep Moving

One feature Averil didn’t expect to love was the built-in step counter.

While the mCareWatch is designed as a personal alarm watch, it also encourages her to stay active each day.

Despite waiting for surgery, she challenges herself to keep moving whenever she can.

“Sometimes I can do 3,000 to 4,000 steps a day, which is absolutely wonderful!”

For many older Australians, staying active plays an important role in maintaining mobility, confidence and independence. Small achievements like these become meaningful milestones.

    Technology That Keeps Families Connected

One of the features Averil values most is knowing her son can be contacted immediately if she activates the SOS button.

Occasionally, there may be an accidental press, but she says those moments often become something unexpectedly special.

“Sometimes there may be a false alarm, but that’s okay because I get to hear my son’s voice. He’ll ring and say, ‘Mum, is everything okay?’ I reassure him everything’s fine, and more often than not I tell him that I love him.”

For Averil, the mCare personal alarm watch (mCareWatch 241SE) offers more than emergency support, it provides reassurance and helps keep family connections strong.

    More Than One Favourite Feature

When asked what she loves most about the personal alarm watch, Averil couldn’t choose just one.

    Her favourite features include:

    • The SOS emergency button
    • The comfortable watch size
    • The built-in step counter
    • Its stylish appearance

Together, these features make the mCareWatch something she enjoys wearing every day rather than something she feels she has to wear.

When asked whether she would recommend the mCareWatch to other older Australians, her answer came without hesitation.

“Absolutely. I’d tell anyone thinking about it to give it a try. They won’t regret it.”

Helping Older Australians Stay Independent with A Personal Alarm Watch

Every person’s needs are different, but many older Australians are looking for the same thing: a simple way to stay independent without compromising their lifestyle.

The mCareWatch combines emergency assistance, a personal alarm, GPS technology, two-way communication and everyday smartwatch features in one wearable device that’s designed to be comfortable enough to wear every day.

For Averil, that’s exactly what it’s become, a watch she enjoys wearing that helps her stay active, connected and independent.
