Let’s walk down memory lane called ’13 years of mCare Digital’, shall we?

On 1 November 2012, we started our business journey, which back then was called mCareWatch. What began as two brothers building a solution so our dad, Michael, could live safely and independently after his stroke, has grown into a proudly Australian team, a family of life-saving products, and a software platform used by carers and organisations across the country. The “m” in mCare still stands for Michael and also for mobility because from day one our purpose has been to keep people moving through life with dignity, safety and connection.

This post looks back on thirteen years of lessons and leaps: the early prototypes, the late-night firmware updates, the customer calls that turned into product ideas, and the moments where community recognition reminded us we’re on the right track. If you’re new to our story, you might like to start with our About page for the origin story and read more about our team and what we stand for. So let’s dive into 13 years of mCare Digital, the story!

Why We Started (and Why We’re Still Here)

Like many Australian innovations, mCare Digital began at the kitchen table. Our father wanted to stay at home and remain independent while he recovered, but the personal emergency alarms available at the time simply weren’t up to scratch. We needed something reliable, wearable and truly mobile – not a device tethered to a landline or base station. So we built it.

That first watch (and the software behind it) became the foundation of our ecosystem: devices, an app, and ConnectiveCare®, our proprietary platform that turns everyday data into meaningful support for carers and care teams.

From the outset, two choices have defined our approach:

  • Keep it Australian, keep it close.

We build and manage our own firmware and software here, which means faster improvements, tighter security and products designed for Australian conditions and emergency protocols. We’re also an NDIS registered provider, Dementia Choices accredited, and ISO 27001 certified because safety isn’t just a feature; it’s a responsibility.

  • Work with the real world.
We listen carefully to our customers and observe the shifts in the personal emergency alarm ecosystem to remain relevant and unique. That feedback loop is why our solutions fit real lives and adapt to the changing circumstances of our key customer segments.

A Few Proud Media Moments

We don’t build for headlines; we build for people. Still, media interest has helped more families, organisations and individuals discover us, and we’re grateful for the coverage over the years. Here’s a small snapshot:

What’s Changed (and What Hasn’t)

The tech has changed.

Thirteen years ago, reliable 4G on the wrist felt like science fiction. Today, the mCareWatch G11 packs advanced features, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth alongside fall detection, two-way calling and refined location services (and so much more) plus it’s integrated with ConnectiveCare® to keep families, care teams/organisations and monitoring centres in sync.

We’ve diversified into multiple customer segments

While initially our focus was to serve the older people in our society with inclusive IoT solutions, we have later on extended our technology to help people with disability and anyone concerned about their personal safety. Understanding the needs of these unique customer segments informed some of our innovation pathways and allowed us to confidently offer solutions that are discreet in the context of domestic and family violence services and lone worker risks. We’ve been fortunate to be chosen as prefered suppliers across government agencies and enterprise.

Security and sovereignty matter more than ever.

With ISO 27001 certification, in-house firmware and software, and infrastructure designed to keep your data in Australia, we continue to prioritise privacy and safety from the ground up.

What hasn’t changed is our approach: listen carefully, build inclusive technology, and stand behind every call, every alert, every watch. Our brand values – ‘make a difference, enjoy the journey, be inclusive, go above and beyond, keep it simple, and always work as a team’ – aren’t just wall art; they’re how we make decisions and relate to customers and each other.

Looking Ahead

Our focus remains clear:

  1. Faster insights, less friction. We’ll keep refining the app and platform so carers can get to the right action faster, especially in moments that matter.
  2. Broader safety coverage. From staff safety to discreet DFV use cases, we’ll continue evolving form factors and features that balance visibility, comfort and reliability.
  3. Partnerships that scale care. We are firmly planted in our intention to keep supporting the agencies and organisations that are already partnering with us. At the same time, this is our call to all those agencies, companies and organisations that are looking for safety alarms and solutions for their staff, employees or individuals in their care. Please reach out to us if this is you.

Thank You for the Trust

Thirteen years on, the most meaningful “metric” isn’t the number of devices shipped; it’s the text from a daughter who slept better because her mum’s watch alerted her in time, the OT who emails to say a client is more independent, the support worker who knows help is just a button-press away. Those stories are why we do this.

To everyone who’s been part of the journey across these 13 years of mCare Digital – customers, carers, OTs, partners and the mCare team – thank you. And to Dad, Michael, whose need sparked this mission: we carry your name and your spirit in every product we build.
