Sydney, Australia – May 2026
For Australian assistive technology provider mCare Digital, supporting the Mark Hughes Foundation and the 2026 Beanies for Brain Cancer campaign is far more than a charitable partnership — it is a cause woven deeply into the heart and history of the company itself.
Founded by brothers Paul and Peter Apostolopoulos, mCare Digital was born from one family’s determination to help their father, Rev. Michael Apostolopoulos, regain his independence following a stroke. Wanting to find a better, more dignified way to support their father’s safety and wellbeing, the brothers became frustrated by the limitations of traditional emergency alarms available at the time.
Driven by love, compassion and innovation, they created what would later become the mCareWatch — a solution designed not just to protect people, but to empower them to continue living independently with confidence, dignity and connection.
What began as a personal mission to help their father would eventually grow into a business that now supports thousands of Australians across the aged care, disability and personal safety sectors.
However, the family’s journey would take another devastating turn.
After courageously recovering from his stroke, Rev. Michael was diagnosed in 2016 with stage 4 glioblastoma — one of the most aggressive forms of brain cancer. Despite fighting with extraordinary strength, positivity and faith, he sadly lost his battle in January 2017.
Today, his legacy continues to inspire everything mCare Digital stands for.
“Supporting Beanies for Brain Cancer is incredibly personal to us because our entire business journey began with our father,” said Paul Apostolopoulos, Co-Founder and Director of mCare Digital.
“We first set out to help him recover after his stroke and maintain his independence. Then, as a family, we experienced the heartbreak and helplessness that comes with a brain cancer diagnosis. We know first-hand how deeply brain tumours affect not only the individual, but every person around them.”
“That is why we are so passionate about supporting the Mark Hughes Foundation and helping raise awareness for brain cancer research, support and hope.”
Throughout the 2026 campaign, mCare Digital will once again proudly support the Mark Hughes Foundation by encouraging staff, customers, partners and the wider community to wear a beanie, donate and help spark meaningful conversations around brain cancer awareness.
The company hopes to shine a light on the reality that brain tumours can affect anyone — young or old, individuals, families, carers and entire communities.
Brain cancer remains one of Australia’s most devastating diseases and continues to receive disproportionately low levels of funding compared to other cancers. Yet for the families facing a diagnosis, the impact is life-changing.
For mCare Digital, this campaign represents more than fundraising — it represents compassion, awareness, resilience and community.
As a family-owned Australian business built from lived experience, the company believes it has a responsibility to use its voice and platform to support causes that genuinely matter and create meaningful impact.
The Mark Hughes Foundation continues to play a vital role in funding brain cancer research, supporting patients and families, and bringing national attention to a disease that affects thousands of Australians every year.
mCare Digital is proud to stand beside the Foundation once again in 2026 and encourages all Australians to join the movement, support the campaign and help create hope for families facing brain cancer.
Because sometimes the smallest actions — even wearing a beanie — can help make the biggest difference.
