A silicone cover turns watch into pendant thanks to a fashionable new accessory for the mCareWatch 241SE by mCare Digital
The new silicone cover for the mCareWatch 241SE was born from one simple idea: listen carefully to the people who use our technology every day, and then design something that genuinely makes life easier for them. Our customers and their supporters have told us, time and again, that choice and comfort matter just as much as safety. This new accessory is our response to that feedback, and we’re delighted to share it with you.
Why we created a silicone cover for the mCareWatch 241SE?
Since launching the mCareWatch 241SE, we’ve spoken with older Australians, people living with disability, families, support coordinators and service providers about how they use the watch in real life. Many people love wearing it on the wrist, but others shared that a traditional watch style doesn’t always work for them.
Some find wristbands uncomfortable because of arthritis, swelling or sensory sensitivities. Others worry that a watch might get in the way at work, catch on clothing, or be difficult to manage during personal care. A number of customers also told us they simply prefer the feel and familiarity of a pendant around the neck. For them, a pendant is easier to reach in an emergency and feels more natural to wear all day.
We knew that if we wanted the mCareWatch 241SE to truly support independence, we needed to give people more flexibility in how they wear it. Rather than creating a completely new device, we looked for a way to extend the life and versatility of the watch our customers already trust. The result is a simple, robust silicone cover that turns the mCareWatch 241SE into a pendant in just a few steps.
Silicone cover turns watch into pendant and this is how it works
The silicone cover has been designed specifically for the mCareWatch 241SE. The idea is straightforward: you can use your device as a watch when that suits you, or as a pendant when that feels more comfortable or practical.
To use the Silicone cover, you remove the existing watch bands, place the 241SE into the silicone housing, and attach it to a magnetic lanyard to wear around the neck. The device remains fully functional, including SOS, calls and GPS, but is now positioned on the chest rather than the wrist. If your needs or preferences change, you can simply take it out of the Silicone cover and reattach the bands to return to a wristwatch.
This flexibility is especially helpful for people whose needs change throughout the day or over time. For example, someone might prefer the watch on their wrist while out and about, but switch to a pendant at home or during rehabilitation, when moving their arms is more difficult.
Designed with comfort, dignity and choice in mind
At mCare Digital, we believe assistive technology should support dignity, not compromise it. That means designing solutions that are practical and comfortable, but also respectful of individual preferences and identity. The silicone cover is a small accessory, but it makes a meaningful difference to how people can use their device.
Wearing a device around the neck can be easier for people with limited dexterity, tremors or fine motor challenges, because the SOS button is closer to the line of sight and may be easier to access quickly. For others, the pendant style feels less like “wearing a gadget” and more like a simple accessory, which can reduce self-consciousness and encourage consistent use.
We also heard from some female customers and carers that jewellery, clothing styles or smaller wrists made a pendant-style option more appealing. By offering a silicone cover, we’re not asking people to fit around the technology; we’re adapting the technology to fit around people’s lives.
The initial release is in black, chosen to match the existing mCareWatch 241SE design and to be neutral across different outfits and settings. The silicone material is soft to the touch and designed to be comfortable for everyday wear. There is a lot to love about this silicone cover that turns watch into pendant.
Co-designed with real-world feedback
This accessory is not something we developed in isolation. It’s the result of many conversations with customers, families, support coordinators, occupational therapists and providers who understand the realities of ageing, disability and daily care.
Common themes we heard included:
“I love the watch, but Mum keeps taking it off at night.”
“My client finds anything tight around the wrist uncomfortable.”
“A pendant would be easier to grab if they feel unsteady.”
“We’d like more flexible wearing options without changing devices.”
We took these comments seriously. Our team explored different form factors, tested prototypes, and refined the design to make sure the cover would be easy to use, robust enough for daily life, and compatible with our existing safety features. The goal was always to create something that feels simple for the wearer, even though a lot of thought has gone into it behind the scenes.
To support customers and carers, we’ve also created a short step-by-step video showing how to remove the mCareWatch 241SE bands and insert the device into the silicone cover. This will sit alongside written instructions, so people can choose the format that works best for them.
Who will benefit most?
While any mCareWatch 241SE wearer can use the silicone cover, we expect it to be especially helpful for:
- Older Australians who find watches uncomfortable or difficult to fasten.
- People living with disability who prefer a pendant for sensory, mobility or dexterity reasons.
- Customers who already use a pendant-style device and are transitioning to a smartwatch but want a familiar wearing option.
It is also a practical option for those who have support workers or family members helping with daily routines. Being able to choose between a wristwatch or a pendant means there is more flexibility in how the device is integrated into care plans and everyday activities.
We have introduced the silicone cover at a $35 price point (for Older Australians and Disability clients) to keep it accessible for the people who will benefit most. For many, this small additional investment can significantly improve comfort and increase the likelihood that the device is worn consistently—and a personal emergency alarm can only help if it is being worn.
A small change that makes a big difference
Sometimes, it’s the smaller changes that have the biggest impact on everyday life. The new silicone cover for the mCareWatch 241SE is one of those changes. It doesn’t alter what the device can do, but it expands how it can be worn, which in turn can improve comfort, confidence and long-term use.
As with all our innovations, this has come from listening to the people who matter most: the individuals wearing our devices, and the families and professionals who support them. We’re grateful for the honest feedback, questions and suggestions that helped shape this product, and we’ll continue to evolve our range in partnership with our community.
If you, a family member, or someone you support is already using the mCareWatch 241SE and would like to explore the pendant option, you can now add the silicone cover as an optional extra when placing an order on our website. If you’re unsure whether it’s the right choice for your situation, our team is always happy to talk it through with you.
At mCare Digital, our focus remains the same: creating technology that genuinely cares. The silicone cover is another step in that direction: offering more choice, more comfort and more ways to stay connected and safe, every day.
