NDIS provides funding to people who have a permanent and significant disability.
What is the NDIS and am I eligible?
What is the NDIS?
There are around 4.3 million Australians who have a disability. When it is fully rolled out, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will provide about 460,000 Australians aged under 65, who have permanent and significant disability with funding for supports and services. For many people, it will be the first time they receive the disability support they need.
The NDIS can provide all people with disability with information and connections to services in their communities such as doctors, sporting clubs, support groups, libraries and schools, as well as information about what support is provided by each state and territory government. How do I get approved?
If you visit the am I eligible page, you will find an NDIS checklist you can read to see if you are eligible.
If you meet the criteria and you would like to become a participant, call NDIS on 1800 800 110 and ask to make an Access Request.
If you are already receiving disability support services, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) will contact you when it becomes available in your area.
Please remember, if you do not receive any disability supports, make sure the NDIS is available in your area before you call to make an Access Request.

Younger Onset of Dementia and the NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the new way supports will be provided to eligible Australians with a disability or disease such as younger onset dementia.
The purpose of the NDIS is to provide people with greater choice, individualised support and the flexibility to manage these supports.

Alzheimer’s Australia is a great resource online helping those who care for someone with dementia.
What is DBMAS and am I eligible?
Dementia Behaviour Management Advisory Sources is a national free service funded by the Australian Government. It is operated and administered by Dementia Support Australia (DSA) in partnership with Hammond Care.
It is a good access point to find services and support, from assessment and diagnosis through to referral to other services and more. It contains useful information and practical tips for family carers as well as care workers. There are some eligibility requirements for certain services but information is free.

AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS
NDIS funding for Autism Spectrum Disorders
You may be eligible for assistance via the NDIS. The funding is to help provide services to children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs).

Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) is Australia’s largest national service provider for people on the autism spectrum. Their specialised, evidence informed schools program is one of the largest in the world, with additional services that include information and advice, diagnostic assessments, behaviour support, parent and family support, and adult programs. Its focus spans from pre-schoolers through to those aged over 18, with specific information to support each age and stage, including information about assessment and early intervention programs.

DISABILITY ASSISTANCE FUNDING
You might be eligible for disability funding through certain government funds and grants.
Find out what options are out there for you or your loved ones in relation to funding for assistive technology and equipment and support with employment.
What is EAF and am I eligible?
The Australian Government’s Employment Assistance Fund (EAF) provides financial assistance to a person with disability or their employer for workplace modifications, equipment and services they require as a result of their disability and are necessary for them to be able to perform their employment duties. You may be eligible to receive funding for your mCareWatch under this program.

How could Assistive Technology help me?
Assistive technology is any device, system or design, that allows an individual to perform a task that they would otherwise be unable to do, or increase the ease and safety with which a task can be performed, or anything that assists individuals to carry-out daily activities.
Other common terms you may be familiar with include aids and equipment or home healthcare.
We recommend visiting an Independent Living Centre near you to sample some of the available tools (check out their website for further information).
Amongst other things, you’ll find information about products and services to help people remain independent and improve their quality of life. This is a high quality collection of some of the latest and most popular assistive technology for people living with dementia, disabilities and their carers. Independent Living Centres in each state (except NT) offer a wide range of other services and support. The Community Services section includes many useful links: for Seniors; for Youth/Children; for the National Disability Insurance Scheme and more.

What sort of grants are available to me?
Grant Funding For Individuals
The Independent Living Centre manages two grant programs for individuals with disabilities. These are the Disability Equipment Grant (DEG) and the Equipment For Living Grant (EFL). Both grants have different eligibility and types of equipment/assistive technology they fund. Forms are regularly updated so please refer to the website for the latest versions.
Disability Equipment Grants Program (DEG)
The Disability Equipment Grant (DEG) Program aims to assist eligible Western Australians with permanent disabilities obtain specific items of equipment and/or subsidies unavailable through other funding. This program is income assessed.
Grants for Assistive Technology/Equipment
Items considered for funding include vehicle modifications, specialised assistive technology for people with sensory, communication or physical impairments, air conditioners and other essential independence equipment.

Equipment for Living Grants (EFL)
The Independent Living Centre of WA is pleased to announce we have received additional grant funding from the Disability Services Commission to continue the Equipment for Living (EFL) grants program until June 2020. Please refer to the new grant forms as there have been some changes.
Equipment for Living Grants (EFL) are available to assist eligible people to obtain vital equipment not currently available through the CAEP or other support programs. The grants will provide essential items that enable individuals with disabilities to have increased participation within their homes and communities. The maximum individual grant is $5,000. Please refer to the application form for eligibility criteria.

TAC (Victoria)
Transport Accident Commission
The TAC is a Victorian Government-owned organisation whose role is to promote road safety, support those who have been injured on Victorian roads and to help them get their lives back on track.
What do they cover?
The TAC cover the costs of injuries which are the direct result of the driving of a car, motorcycle, bus, train or tram. They provide support services for people injured in a transport accident as a driver, passenger, pedestrian, motorcyclist and in many cases, a cyclist. The supports can include income support while you recover and the payment of a lump sum if you have a serious and permanent injury.
Are your products covered?
Under the TAC’s new equipment process low cost equipment under $1,000 is pre-approved. This includes all products and service plans from mCareWatch.

Lifetime Care and Support Scheme (NSW)

If you’ve been severely injured in a NSW motor accident, you may be eligible to become a Lifetime Care participant.
What do they cover?
The Lifetime Care and Support Scheme pays for treatment, rehabilitation and care for people who have been severely injured in a motor accident in NSW. They are a no-fault scheme. This means they can provide support regardless of who was at fault in the accident, as long as you meet their eligibility criteria for both your motor accident and your injury.
Who is eligible?
Severe injuries that may be eligible for the Scheme include:
– spinal cord injury
– brain injury
– amputations
– burns
– permanent blindness
